What is an RP friendly way of using Portent die in combat? /u/feckshite DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I switched portent die to hit an enemy, then used one to dodge an explosion.

My understand is divination is a school that sees the future. However, I can’t help but RP these scenarios in ways other than my character just dodging attacks matrix style or being randomly athletic (which he is not).

How do you play this out?
