I know he’s weak to fire so will the Glavenus Spada (LS) be good against him? It looks awesome.

The journey in MHW

Hi there! First timer in the Monster Hunter franchise, and finally beat Fatalis, so I’d just like to share some thoughts, moments, about the journey.

It all begins with one of my friends, who was hooked on MH, inviting me to play MHW. Since my Semester had just ended, I thought it’ll be the perfect time to kickstart a new game as well.

Note: Whilst I did most of the Low Rank with my friend, they got busy, so from HR to MR it was mostly solo all the way (cuz my friend mentioned playing multiplayer will have people coming in and deleting the monster for you, ruining the experience)

Low Rank was a perfect start into the game, it introduced the monsters and mechanics (although my friend did tell me I was the only person to spend 30mins to figure out the Clutch Claw tutorial mission). The environments were diverse and beautiful, and I spent an hour in an expedition just exploring the Ancient Forest (and also chancing upon Ratholos and running for my life lmao). The music of the game was also superb, and “Stars behind our backs” is still in my playlist, along with other Monster themes.

When it came to weapon selection, I’m ngl I randomly picked one and ended up on the LS (much to the chagrin of my friend), but more on that later.

Most of the Low rank monsters were a joy to fight, and I particularly enjoyed the Zorah Magdaros ones, it really gave a scale of “Elder Dragon”.

Still though, I think my biggest problem (at the time) was that the LS just felt wrong to me. I could never get the I-frame slash thing, and the hack and slash just felt pretty off. So I scoured for a new weapon, and from there, forever fell in love with the Lance. Unmoving and poking, the Lance felt like you were responding and countering the monster, rather than always spamming that space bar to roll, and I loved every second of it.

Another thing that I really enjoyed abt playing the Lance (which really could be applied to the other weapons as well, but to a degree greater on the Lance) was the build preparation. Sheathing and dodging aren’t really and option, so before every hunt, there’d be a phase of prepping items and resistances (mantles, and in the future decos) to ensure maximum time with the weapon unsheathed and attacking. It truly felt like preparing for a hunt. My favourite fights in LR/HR included Diablos, Barroth, Nergigante etc.

Many of my criticisms of the game came in IB. The first biggest hurdle of course came from Alatreon. I have heard of his infamous elemental check fight, and decided that I needed to first upgrade my weapon, which brought me to FrostFang Barioth.

Unlike the normal Barioth, FF Barioth had one attack that just whooped my ass over and over again, the Ice breath that makes your character stumble. I tried mirewalker, guard up, and ultimately found out nothing could guard against it. It was a truly frustrating experience for a few days. Luckily however, by using Farcasters everytime we was enraged, and slamming him every 2 mins with some pokes, I was eventually able to take him out and craft his Lance.

Still thought despite that, I was unable to overcome Alatreon. Most frustrating was when I once broke both horns, survived the max number of Escatons possible, and still did not do enough damage to kill him. After some thinking, I surmised that likely due to the insane chip damage (despite guard 5), I was having to resheath, heal up, and otherwise put myself out of position, wasting precious damage windows.

(Insert a semester here, and a return after 1 semester of work)

Another complaint of MHW was the grinding. And I speak not of materials, for those I understand. But simply grinding MR levels from 60-80 was just mind numbingly boring. And it was just to unlock level 6 on the grinding lands to the Health Augment. For the first time, I jumped into multiplayer and essentially fought monsters for the sake of MR, which was boring AF. After about a week, I hit the necessary numbers, got the augment, and instantly deleted Alatreon on the first go. I was happy, but more so relieved at this point, for the grinding was over (or so I thought).

Fatalis, the final challenge, awaited. After seeing what happened with Alatreon, I threw myself back into the Grinding lands to get health augment on the newly crafted Alatreon Lance… which was MR100. (Insert another week of mind numbing MR – raising missions). I tried Fatalis alone, and despite wanting to take him solo, I joined my friend group and slayed him together after several tries. All happy and joyful… except it didn’t sit well with me. Whatever the case, I had to take him down, alone.

I threw myself in, crafting the Fatalis Armour, weapon, and Velkana Gamma Legs (which was another POS fight, think FF Barioth but worse). And tried again and again and again. Wiping over and over, but with each try optimising which guard to use against him, whether I could counter or I should hold. Whether I should charge, or sheath and run.

And after 3 weeks of trying: It was complete.

One hell of a journey from start to end. I’d see you guys in Wilds (if my PC can take it). Also pls for the love of god improve the keybinds for keyboard and mouse in wilds pls T.T

Insect Glaive help – I’ve gotta be missing something /u/Corviak Monster Hunter: World

Like the title suggests, I have got to be missing something with this weapon. My damage output is so low that hunts usually take me around 40 minutes to complete and now I’ve reached my 2nd wall in Iceborne: Blackveil Vaal Hazak. I’m nearing the end of my rope as I probably have around 2.5 hours alone trying to hunt this thing.

My main strategy is gaining red, doing some poking; gaining white, do some helicoptering; and finally getting orange to get a reset on the buffs until that runs out. I do the infinite ground combo as often as I can as that (to my knowledge) is my highest DPS option available, but it usually ends up getting me killed by a sudden move by the monster. I use the clutch claw attack thing whenever I can, though it’s usually in rage, so I just waste all my ammo.

Gear I’m currently using:

  • Hazak Entoma II
  • High Metal Helm alpha (Flight 2)
  • Odogaron Mail beta (Hard Intimidator 4 + Survival 1)
  • Kadachi Vambraces alpha (Attack 1)
  • Hoarcry Coil beta (Steadfast 4)
  • Beo Greaves alpha (Warming 2)
  • Fair Wind Charm

My jewels aren’t good, but they’re all I have.

I almost finished the mission, but after 48 minutes on the timer, I died after making it retreat. There’s no reason for hunts to take this long when I’m using the best gear I can get (that I know of). I would have thrown on my temporal mantle but it wasn’t off cooldown at that moment.

I just have to be missing something with this weapon, i’ve been using it my entire playthrough, but this monster and the Barioth just aren’t fun at the moment, as I’m wasting away literal hours against them.

Switch to Switch Axe??? /u/AngryFruitFly Monster Hunter: World

Been a Sword & Shield guy since I started playing this series on PS2 or was it PS3. Dang I’m old. Anyways, Been that way for over 200 hours on MHW also. However I’m getting an itch that only the swaxe can scratch.

It’s seems like an amazing weapon but I need reasons to make the change. Is it actually good or not? Also what kind of build should create? I’m a very casual player so please break it down Barney style. Thanks!!!

Should I use safi or kjarr weapons for alatreon fight /u/Crazy-Degree-2933 Monster Hunter: World

So I’ve been farming safi a lot lately and I’ve managed to make the full armour set and got long swords of all elements. But they have disgustingly low elemental damage. On the other hand I’ve heard people say kjarr weapons are best for elemental but both mr and hr kulve taroth is such a pain in the ass to farm. So what do you guys think I should do?

r/MonsterHunterWorld So I’ve been farming safi a lot lately and I’ve managed to make the full armour set and got long swords of all elements. But they have disgustingly low elemental damage. On the other hand I’ve heard people say kjarr weapons are best for elemental but both mr and hr kulve taroth is such a pain in the ass to farm. So what do you guys think I should do? submitted by /u/Crazy-Degree-2933 [link] [comments]
