I’m a newb /u/Mors_Algic Monster Hunter: World

Wanted to know if anyone has advice, got the game today for Christmas and I’ve got myself settled on a weapon of choice and the basics, just wanted to know any tips for later on, progressing and also if there’s a way to just go to the island without a quest, essentially free roam hunting monsters

Basically, I am wondering if I have to capture these mons as well, or would culling them be sufficient? And, furthermore, would capturing/culling these creatures boost my rewards for the quest?
