Equivalent to older (5 to 10 years old) Banana Republic Chinos? /u/Extreme-Garlic5477 /r/malefashionadvice

Hi folks,

Weird, for some reason I can’t post if I have the word Aiden in the title. If I remove it, it lets me post. Anyway…

Standard Banana Republic Aiden Slim cotton chinos have been good pants for me over the last decade. 30/30 fits me well. They last a long time for for me. They eventually became called Tailored Slim I believe. Same as the Aiden apparently.

They do not seem to sell these any longer. I tried on current Banana Republic slim chinos and they felt baggier/longer in the same 30/30. Maybe mine have just been washed so many times they shrank and these new ones will too? Has the fit changed?

I see that the Banana Republic Factory Outlet has slim chinos and they say “formerly Aiden fit”. But I’m not in love with the idea of outlet quality pants. I wear each pair once a week and they get washed often and I like them to last.

J. Crew slim felt baggy/long too.

Maybe I just need to let them shrink and can’t really compare them to my well-worn current pants?

What are your go to chinos presently if you were happy with standard Banana Replica Aidens 10+ years ago? I just want to replicate that fit and durability/longevity.

Thanks!

Boots – quality and comfort /u/Gushys /r/malefashionadvice

What’s some good quality men’s boots

I saw some from Thursday Boots but I’m not sure on the quality since they have a really affordable price point. They have tons of styles that catch my eye

What other brands that have similar styles are out there but also still affordable?

Edit: in the US

Koio’s way stiffer and smaller than they used to be? /u/apprximatelycorrect /r/malefashionadvice

I had ordered a Koio Capri in the white color way with the grey suede accent about 5 or 6 years ago. It was one of my favorite shoes for a long long time.

During Black Friday, I just ordered a pair of these as well as an all grey suede colorway. They’re super super stiff and way smaller than my old pair. Has anyone else experienced this? It seems like it can’t be an issue with QC if both pairs are like this. Did they significantly change the shoe? The leather also doesn’t look quite as nice in the new version (it looks less “real” is how I would describe it).

Edit: am I crazy or did the silhouette change as well? They look less sleek somehow.

Edit #2: yes, they’re less sleek. The widest part is about a half cm wider than the old Koios and a full cm wider than CPs.

Wool Coat Price / Quality Ratio /u/watchtheplainclothes /r/malefashionadvice

Wool Coat Price / Quality Ratio /u/watchtheplainclothes /r/malefashionadvice

I recently bought a very expensive (for me) piece of knitwear from Inis Meáin, but only after looking into it for a long time and determining that it would be worth the investment. I think on a lot of knitwear, e.g. cashmere, the difference between a £100 & a £500 sweater is big.

I don’t own a big wool coat, I usually wear a puffer / down jacket in the cold, but I’m looking to pick one up this winter.

The nicest one I’ve seen is probably the Black & Cream Donegal Overcoat by Permanent Style and Private White VC that I’ve seen mentioned a couple of times on this sub, but it’s £1,100 and out of stock, potentially for the year.

I also like the 1920s Brown Herringbone Tweed Balmacaan on Olderbest, which is £265.

Just wondering as a wool coat virgin what people’s thoughts are on the likely difference in quality, feel, and durability between the two (or comparable coats in those 2 v different price ranges).

I don’t mind spending a lot on a coat that should last at least 10-15 years, but by the same token, if the difference is marginal, I am happy to pay a quarter of the price!

Cheers!

underarm sweat smell issues /u/highvoltageeee2k3 /r/malefashionadvice

Hi All,

I drive a lot and have constant issues with smell from the under arms after a long drive.

Any suggestions which t shirts can i wear? I live close to DC so would be needing two sets of t shirts one for winter and another one summer. What are your suggestions?

Your favorite ___ for $___: Flannel 2024 /u/NoMarket5 /r/malefashionadvice

Your favorite ___ for $___: Flannel 2024 /u/NoMarket5 /r/malefashionadvice

Flannel is a lot of things, so let’s get it straight. Flannel refers first to a fabric and second to a pattern typically associated with shirts of that fabric.

Although Flannel was originally a woven wool fabric, it is now often made with cotton, especially in shirting, and especially in cheaper shirting. This weave should still, ideally, provide a thick, soft, warm shirt.

Flannel shirts have been worn by everybody from rockers to lumberjacks. Okay, that was a rock fan and a wood fan, but still, they’re good pictures that you should look at.

Price Bins:

Guidelines for posting here:

  • I’ll post price bins as top level comments. Post your answer to a price bin, as a second level comment. You can also use top level comments for general info, inspo albums, and general questions.
  • Try to stick to one brand/strategy per second-level comment. If you want to recommend both Alden and Carmina, post them separately so people can vote and discuss separately.
  • Include a link in your second-level comment if you can — if not to a purchase page, at least to images.
  • Try to use prices you might realistically pay. That might be MSRP, or it might not — it depends. If you’re in a cheap bin, maybe the best buying strategy is to thrift, or wait for a big sale. If you’re buying from a store like Banana Republic, paying full price is simply incorrect — the only question is whether you’ll get 40% off or 50% off. So factor that in.
  • The bins are in USD, so either use a US price, or convert a non-US price to USD to pick the bin.
  • There is no time limit on this thread, until Reddit stops you from posting and voting. This thread will sit in the sidebar for a long time, and serve as a guide for lots of people, so help them out!
