Am I being targeted? /u/starkaptain DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hi all, I just want to know if I’m being paranoid, or if the DM genuinely has it out for me.

So I’ve been playing with a group of good friends for just about a year. Party consists of an EK(me), Bard, Paladin, and a Ranger. (Sometimes a Monk and Cleric join us, but the pop in and out).

For the most part, I’m the one with the most DnD experience, the Bard has some, but that’s about it. Our DM is brand new too. We finally got to our second big dungeon, and the boss fight for Act 1 of our campaign. Being an EK, I love to pull some shenanigans with my weapon bond (the only good thing about EK besides the shield spell), and my DM knows this, and has generally been pretty cool about it.

Going into this dungeon, our DM said it was going to be very difficult, and he would very much try to kill us. Tough, but at least there was a warning. Being the only true fighter, (the PC for the Paladin doesn’t know what he’s doing most of the time) I was prepared to deal lots of damage, and get lots dealt to me. Fair.

We enter the boss fight, and I’m immediately targeted by every enemy. I have a high AC for level 5 (I think) at 21, and Shield puts it up to 26. Okay cool. Some enemies hit, and others he has me roll Dex saves to not get hit by arrows? Obviously my Dex saves are shit. Okay so I get hit. Whatever. I make it up to the boss, am about to land a hit and then “Make a dex save.” My eyebrows raise and I shrug. Make the dex save. 12. Two arms come from behind a pillar and grapple me. I’m a little pissed but whatever. I had already thrown one of my swords at the boss, he miraculously dodges. Then I remember I have another sword I’m weapon bonded with. It’s not currently in my inventory (I sold it. Long story.) So I have the genius idea to call my sword to me, and use it to surprise attack the baddie grappling me. He has me roll. Roll for my weapon bond. I roll a one. The sword comes to me, but detonates in my hand. The sword wasn’t magical. I shouldn’t have to roll to summon my sword, and it shouldn’t detonate.

We had to stop mid fight for OOC reasons. But I’m miffed. Am I being targeted? Is the DM just untrained? What is going on? Am I being paranoid?

Sorry for the ranting.

Ancient Blue Dragon, Yrtuhr’ithriel Yryn’durak [OC] /u/buildsandguilds DnD: Roll for Initiative!

This was a build I did for a boss fight my D&D players fought. The dragon was alluded to from one of the very first sessions back in 2019, but they just now got to fight and beat it! 1 tried to really go all out on this one in terms of detailing, scale, and posability.

Let me know what you think!

Who else loves to play older characters? /u/Honneboppel DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Maybe I am getting older myself, but playing 17 year old heroes who hit level 20 and saving the world twice over before turning 19 has become really old (bad pun intended) for me.

Actually as I think back, I never really played as teenage characters, outside of specific settings. Most are rather late when it comes to discovering their adventuring side. – the wizard that got kicked out of school to actually finish his thesis – the local guardsman that just got mixed up with some weird shit as he was trying to just live a normal life – the monk who was just climbing the sacred mountain annualy for the 59th time, and suddenly stuff happend – or just the parent who really needed to make some gold in order to feed their family.

But I always seem to be the odd one out with those choices. Ending up in a group of 16-19 year old freshlings with tragic backgrounds. Something in the likes of being taken in by XY after parents where killed and then turning out to be a prodigy in soellcasting/thieving/avenging and a higher killcount than the most hardened veterans ever achieve in their whole life.

So how is it with you? Do you prefer playing youngling heroes or older ones who only later turn out to be a hero? Do you make a different choice when it comes to generating at higher levels? Do you scale your heroes so they are around your own real life age to bett34 identity with them?

Personally with herbalism and arcana proficiency I would try and turn them into potions of growth during downtime. All else fails they would be interesting to throw at an enemies feet.

Tavern in real life [OC] /u/JoaodeSacrobosco DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I found this place in Portugal. They made it look like a dream fantasy tavern, they dress medieval and they serve medieval recipies from an actual medieval book of recipies. Their mead is fantastic, you drink tons of it and still feel good – and the owner, an actual historian, tells a lot about medieval cooking and about each dish. Check online Taberna Medieval O Caldeirão. No, it’s not mine and they didn’t hire me for this.
