Campaign ideas /u/Secret-Initiative-71 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I’m DMing for the first time and I have a concept of a story. Pretty much it’s a 90s sitcom. It will start out with of bucnch of one shots acting like episode. Eventually they’ll start figuring out that something isn’t right, and break free for the simulation and find out the one behind this all is a demigod of entertainment. I’m still thinking of how it’ll lead up to it, so if y’all have any ideas for episodes or any improvements to the story can y’all let me know

Do people like rolling for normal social interactions? /u/NoPauseButtonForLife DnD: Roll for Initiative!

A strange item is for sale in a shop, a player asks, “I might be interested in purchasing this, can you tell me more about it?”

A street urchin is begging for food, a player offers him a goodberry without asking for anything in return.

A town is afflicted with a mysterious disease, a player says, “I want to help you find a cure. I just need some information about where you’ve been the last few days.”

Whether I’m a player or a DM, I’m always surprised when someone asks to roll persuasion in the above situations.

The situation is either “Very Easy” (DC 5) because everything is exactly as it seems or “Nearly Impossible” (DC 30) because there is something else going on and the NPC is keeping a secret.

Yes, I know at certain levels certain face characters can regularly meet a DC 30 persuasion. Also, plenty of characters have charisma as a dump stat.

But other than the rare DC 30, why incentivize the face to perform all standard social interactions. “Tell the shopkeeper I want 5 potions of healing” “Ask the barmaid whether horses have been going missing” “See if they know the the direction to town”

Am I the only one who thinks its annoying?

The Bard in my DND Group is terribly weak in combat /u/boettgerc DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hi everyone,

One of the players in my dnd group is playing a college of lore bard. The power difference in combat is quite significant compared to the other players. Every player is pretty new to dnd and none of the characters are min maxed or something.

Do you have any tips or suggestions on how to make the bard more powerful? I would even consider giving her a powerful magic item or something. Because I as the player would not have fun in combat at all. Most of her attacks with her bow miss due to her low atk bonus – what is no fun at all. Usually her turns are vicious mockery and bardic inspiration. If Vicious mockery doesn’t get saved it is quite useful on larger enemies because of the disadvantage on their next atk roll.

Any help is appreciated 🙂

As a hobby I‘ve been painting these and other miniatures. Since I’ve been running out of space I‘ve been looking for ways to store them, when my gf said that some people actually buy stuff like that? Is that actually the case? And for how much do miniatures like these go? Except for the tree, they’re all like 13-15cm tall and painted by hand. Since I do it without stressing for time, It usually takes me about 5-30 hours to paint these, depending on size and complexity. I‘ve also painted some 32mm and smaller Miniatures which take around 4-8 hours.

Who’s older than Kelemvor? And other such “young” gods? /u/MostTry5279 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I’ve been thinking…a lot of very well-known characters are either around the same age or older than literal gods like Kelemvor, and those same characters often pay tribute to said gods. It would be very funny to see a guy who met Kelemvor randomly, then all of a sudden, a few decades later he sees that “OH MY GODS, HE’S A GOD?” and like that’s just hilarious. Especially for clerics of Kelemvor, those of whom are hundreds of years old, like for example in BG3 if you reclass Astarion as a cleric of Kelemvor or Cyric, he’d probably crack a joke about how he’s older than the gods he worships. Same with, for example, a cambion for whatever reason.

[OC] Update to my previous post “I’m gonna DM my first ever game over Christmas” (DoIP – Essentials Kit) /u/dokomiii DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hello everyone! I’d like to start this out with a heartfelt thank you to all for the 450!! great comments and 1k upvotes I received on my previous post. Sadly it got removed because I added a picture of the module I’m running and it violated the apparent rule of “posting pictures of purchased items” – my bad. Still I wanted to update to say, that despite all three players being complete newbies and me being a first-time DM it went as well as it could’ve I guess. Session 0 was explaining basics and chosing characters. Immediately after we decided to jump right in and started the adventure. Safe to say roleplaying is very hard when you’re not used to it. Still they got a feel for how the “passive” game (non-combat) works and began the first three quests of the module. Our second session today was the first combat, where I definitely excel at. They got the hang of it pretty quickly and were all very engaged. Due to some bad rolls on my end they managed to complete the encounter with ease. Because of time constraints we cut the session right after combat and scheduled to pick it back up after new-years. I’m very excited to continue!
