How to do dnd with two people? /u/Valor12321 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I need help I really want to play dnd with my bud who’s also into it but how do you do it? We both suck at being DM and I’ve only brought up dnd to one other person from my school and got ridiculed (I come from a southern football not accepting town) so can I do it? Or do I try to find a third

how to start out with being a DM? /u/colourless_potato DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I have a friend who’s really into DND, but hasn’t had anyone to actually play with. We don’t live near each other, but I asked some of of our mutual friends and they said they’d be interested too, so we got to planning and we want to surprise him by organising an online campaign for all of us. Problem is, I’ve never played the game, and I would assume the role of the DM, since the rest want to play as characters. I have no idea where to even begin, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips?

Running a prologue with “back up characters” /u/Significant_Win6431 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Running a prologue with “back up characters” /u/Significant_Win6431 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I’m going to run Rime of the frost maiden in the next few months, I’m debating with the idea of running a prologue set 2 years before the campaign. Some parts of the campaign reference events in thr 3.5 legacy of the crystal shard, I like a couple of relevant quests but not the full campaign.

The prologue party would be caravan guards who bring a shipment of harper weapons to ten towns so not alot of freedom in backstory. Any PC class they want. It would finish with a TPK due to chain lightning scroll.

Main campaign would be returning to level 1 characters. Saves me from doing backstory of why heroes of the ten towns revert to level 1 and sitting on their asses for 2 years while ten towns becomes a horror setting.

Concerns with finishing the prologue with a designed TPK. Is that it would anger my PCs and depending how I introduce it they may be expecting it because they would be using relatively shallow backstory “back up characters”.

Has anyone tried something like this before? How did it work out?

How do I make a healer out of my character? /u/K1nd0f0bs3ss3d DnD: Roll for Initiative!

i put this as misc because i dont know what edition my starter set thingy is.

So I have a character who really would NOT work with cleric, but needs to be a healer. I was thinking wizard but stumbled upon something that said wizards don’t have many healing spells. She shouldn’t have much charisma either, so wizard is the best I could find. I don’t know what to do… I want to play this character in my next session, so I’d need to know how to do it!

Idea for a campaign for first homebrew world. Looking for feedback. /u/professor4056 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Idea for a campaign for first homebrew world. Looking for feedback. /u/professor4056 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Gonna try this again:

I’m an up and coming DM currently running a Dragonheist campaign as my first, and in parallel I’m working on the bones of a campaign in my Homebrew world, Crux. Here’s the general idea:

The richest man in the country of Uprimoor, a fairly newly formed republic, has put out far and wide that he is looking for adventurers to bring him exotic foods from all over Almina Island, a holding in Uprimoor. He’s offering a huge reward for each one, but with the caveat that he’ll only pay out when he has all the ones on his list, and he’ll give an additional gift for the team that brings him the most. So the campaign is going around trying to find all the foods.

But of course it’s not simply a hunting trip, each of these ingredients comes with an adventure, dealing with the dangers of the largely unexplored Almina Island and the competition with other adventurers who have answered the call. And perhaps other things happening on the island as well.

Inspiration came from Delicious in Dungeon and Toriko, and the ingredients are things like “Neck of a Hydra’s 13th head” and “Milk from the cows who jump over the moon.”

Does this sound like a good idea? What would be the most obvious issues that I should look out for? I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a railroad, but it’s not a sandbox either. I see it in that the ingredients come with tiers of difficulty (7 total ingredients, 3 tiers), with the adventure starting at level 4-5 and going to level 10-12.

New character has acolyte background and misquotes texts. Any ideas for great quotes I can screw up? /u/More-I-am-gamer DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I probably could have done this with a generative a.i. but I enjoy Reddit humor. As the title states, one of the traits for the acolyte background is: “I quote (or misquote) sacred texts and proverbs in almost every situation.” I’d really like to ham up that part of his identity for an immersive role-playing experience. But I can’t think of any clever sounding passages to use. Please help by commenting any quotes or sayings, rhymes or haikus, or any profound, clever or funny string of words that I can mess up.

This character is a monk with an INT of 6 for context.

My character

I created my char a while ago. It’s an albino yuan-ti pureblood named Viper. He’s a bloodhunter, tainted soul with a contract with an archdevil. I play my friends custom story. So I got a great deal of uncommon opportunities, like turning myself into a devil! Just wanted to share my excitement for DnD as a whole. I only got into it half a year ago and I really like it. Share your first characters in comms and have great holidays!
