Fellow DM’s what ridiculous homebrew have you rejected? /u/Peridot9001 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I’ve only ever DM for one ongoing game and my players homebrew items or feats are usually pretty balanced and if not it’s just a matter of tweaking the numbers. Only one homebrew feat was so ridiculous that I told the player “at the end of this session pick another feat or stat increase, that homebrew feat is banned” it was a feat that gave bonus effects for upcasting and ended up with the player one rounding a dracolich. What super op homebrew have you rejected or banned after it was used?

Any dumb/trivial crimes (like jaywalking, littering, etc) that a stupid vigilante character might bring up? /u/MosinsAndAks DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I have a monk who is a reformed lawful stupid character on probation who wants to punish ALL crimes but restrains himself from doing typical lawful stupid stuff so he (and the party) won’t get in trouble.

One recurring joke is that I have him list 2 serious crimes the boss/enemies are guilty of followed by a trivial one before the party enters combat. “Theft, murder, AND littering; you’re going down!”

Can you think of any examples of comparatively minor violations I could add to my list? Here’s what I have so far,

Jaywalking, littering, loitering, trespassing, vandalism, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, tax evasion, vagrancy

Edit: Also this character is in a Curse of Strahd campaign, so any crimes specifically relevant to that setting would be especially welcome

[OC] [Art] first campaign character! thozar aturak :) /u/themerls DnD: Roll for Initiative!

[OC] [Art] first campaign character! thozar aturak 🙂 /u/themerls DnD: Roll for Initiative!

my friends and i FINALLY decided to start planning out a dnd campaign!! it’s our very first one, so a lot of excitement, of course!!

i immediately ran to go ahead and draw him, obviously 😉

so here you have him, folks!

name: thozar aturak race: half-orc class: ranger alignment: chaotic neutral

i’ve got a more information, of course, but those bits are somewhat irrelevant. instead, let me take you to the backstory!

( note : our dm(s) wanted us to start off all in the same village, but none of us being born there / belonging there! so while my backstory is quite basic, i had to use the only tools available, haha )

Thozar was born of a marriage of benefit and alliance between two collectives of humans and orcs. Despite the union and the child that they bore, the disagreements within these collectives eventually led to war. Seeing that they no longer needed be together, his parents separated with ease. But none of them wanted to keep the disgraceful, odd half-breed child that represented their failures.

His mother ran with him, clutching Thozar in her arms. Not so far as would inconvenience her further, but far enough to keep him away from her for good. She put him in a haphazardly wrapped blanket somewhere close enough to the village, not even checking to see if someone ever found him. She left a note to quickly scribble down any relevant information, left a dragon-tooth pendant around his neck, and never looked back.

Thozar was found, but he was never quite ‘claimed. Some people were nice and pitied him enough to make sure he never starved, but they’d never quite let him get close. Most people found him repulsive and terrifying. He did not give two shits (outwardly, anyway). He grew to become a loud, mouthy, grinning idiot.

Thozar likes to annoy charm people, not really caring who or what he’s talking to. Despite his naturally extroverted nature, he doesn’t really have anyone he’d say he’s close to or honestly anyone he’d consider a friend. He quite likes to move around a lot and he’s not very good at staying in place. Thozar spends many of his evenings practicing archery out in the woods.

please tell me if he’s any good! first-timer tips are also greatly appreciated 🙂

I contacted my Patron and it was the best. /u/New_Rogue DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I contacted my Patron and it was the best. /u/New_Rogue DnD: Roll for Initiative!

So in this one shot, I play as an archfey warlock who serves Queen Titania as an ambassador. So in the one shot, I was sent by Queen Titania to kill a druid lich. In fighting the lich I managed to put a magic circle around her. So in thinking we won, she summoned 3 monsters one of which was a fey knight. So as a joke, I told the Lich “Hey can I take a phone call before we fight” and she said, “Sure I can let you waste my time for a few minutes longer”. I then called Queen Titania and said “Hey can you get your fey knight he is on the lich’s side and I know you hate her right now”.

To make a long story short she asks to speak to the fey knight and the entire party finds out that the fey knights are under union and get a commission for every summon they answer so there is no way she can actually take him out of the fight. So I get my phone back and she is doing nothing but complaining to me the whole time about how unions suck and she is pissed off at the fey council for going with the times. I then thank her for her time and promise the fey knight that we will get drinks when we kill him. He proceeds to give me a thumbs up and fight us. And that is how we got a fey knight best friend in the wild. And let me say I have never been so glad that my idea failed.
