Do mimics poop? /u/Papaya140 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

So the rogue had a magic item that is basically your standard skeleton key,it could open any lock and I suspect the DM was tired of the rogue breaking and entering during downtime because they tried to open a chest which turned out to be a mimic and the mimic ate the key (and the rogue’s hand) and the mimic escaped while we were making sure the rogue didn’t bleed out,are we ever getting that key back outside of murdering the mimic and searching it’s guts?

The reason why I haven’t played D&D yet is because I lost any hope to find someone to play with in real life. But after I found out about websites to play online, I bought the PHB and really want to try playing. I would appreciate if someone who was in a similar situation could tell me how it went.

Ideas for use of non-standard dice? (D3, D5, D7, D16, D24, D30, D60, D100 or others) /u/Not_A_Clicker_Yet DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Ideas for use of non-standard dice? (D3, D5, D7, D16, D24, D30, D60, D100 or others) /u/Not_A_Clicker_Yet DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I got a great gift from one of my players – non-standard dice. I would like to include them in sessions, so I’m looking for ideas. I’m thinking of creating magic items that include random tables, but I’m curious how others found use of them.
Are there some situations that these dice are great for?

This post could serve as collection of ideas for non-standard dice, since I didn’t find one elsewhere.
Also feel free to to include ideas for other dice, not included in the title 🙂

Giant dice tower ideas [OC] /u/kel_var_the_wanderer DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Giant dice tower ideas [OC] /u/kel_var_the_wanderer DnD: Roll for Initiative!

One of my players gifted me a giant cardboard Eiffel Tower (it was a Paris Olympics Coke ad), and we thought it’d be awesome to turn it into a giant dice tower! So far, I’ve been experimenting with a poster tube and some wooden sticks to create a setup where dice can bounce their way down. I’m still brainstorming what kind of theme to give it. My current ideas are: • A generic fantasy-style dice tower • Barad-dûr • Orthanc • Keeping it as the Eiffel Tower I’d love to hear your suggestions! Any creative ideas or tips for building this would be much appreciated.

Before anyone feels sorry for me, I had lots of fun and learned so much drawing this.

Also it is totally normal and okay for me that big chunks of backstories / potential plot lines, never make the “DM’s cut”, even the ones I put quite a but of effort in. I enjoy building a lot around characters, but get that my PC isn’t the main character, and some things might not fit the story or party. (Don’t worry I don’t dump a 30 page backstory on my DM, we mainly talk, and he gets a google doc with short summaries and quick reference guides for names etc.)
