Vampiric touch on sorc /u/AlternativeTrick3698 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Is it allowed to use Quickened spell to attack with Vampiric touch and cast a spell?

2 VT attacks on first turn: Spell and Action that gained from this spell. And some other spell and vampiric attack on other turns.

Is Baldurs Gate 3 a good introduction into DnD? If not, what is? /u/AgitatedFly1182 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

I’ve been interested in DnD ever since I watched DougDoug’s hilarious video, but he said that was a very simplified version of the game which is pretty intimidating. Since the massive success of Baldurs Gate 3, and it being based around DnD, I wonder if I could get into DnD by playing BG3.

DMing made me enjoy being a PC less /u/KenKinV2 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hey everyone,

Last year, I nervously took the leap from PC to DM and honestly, I’ve ended up enjoying it way more than I thought I would. It feels very satisfying to come up with challenges, plot hooks, and scenarios and then seeing how my players interact with them—often in ways that completely surprise me.

On the flip side I’ve been in a game as a player for almost three years now. I used to be absolutely obsessed with it, but ever since I started DMing, my interest in it has dwindled.

It’s hard to pinpoint why. Maybe it’s because, as a DM, I get to have all the answers, know the bigger picture, and shape how things play out. There’s a sense of control and foresight that I really enjoy (maybe this is howbibfind out I’m actually a control freak). Meanwhile, as a player, I’m often going in blind, and my enjoyment of the game feels largely dependent on the DM and other players. It can sometimes feel aimless, like I’m just reacting to what’s happening rather than actively driving anything forward.

Has anyone else experienced this shift when moving from being a player to DMing? How do you balance enjoying both roles? Or is this just part of the player-DM pipeline?

Creatures that are A*holes /u/LilWeezey DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hi I am very new to D&D and I am interested in DMing. I figured, and correct me if I’m wrong, that an easy way for me to understand the game play better is to do essentially mundane gaming.

So I am creating a homebrew game and I was wondering what creature I can include that’s kinda the equivalent to a seagull or something. That like if you look at it the wrong way or have something it wants it’s just gonna attack you because it can.

So while my players are doing their mundane task they have a sort of “enemy” to hinder them a bit for giggles.

Hopefully this makes sense. Also if there’s any other tips you got for me to learn the mechanics I’d appreciate it. The only other tabletop game I’ve played was VtM

Feywild and the archfey? /u/Civil-Ad8274 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hell, I’ve loved dnd for around 5 years now and I still don’t know everything,, the feywild is very confusing lol

I’m just curious with archefey, specifically if they can control/protect a certain part of the feywild, like a forest (or have it be their sort of ‘domain’ as such? I can vlarify what I mean if needed.)? Also, Would a group of druids make sense in this area? Like worshipping that part of the forest and archfey and such

Feeling useless playing bard, any hints? /u/UnitIndependent7980 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Feeling useless playing bard, any hints? /u/UnitIndependent7980 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

My party is as follow (We are all lvl 13):
– Half-elf Hexblade/paladin
– Half-drow Rogue/Ranger
– Dragonborn Figher
– Variant Human Fighter
– Variant Human EloBard (Me)

I am the only support of the party and while the campaign has an amazing story and some breaks between combats when things get real I feel like I ain’t doing as much as I could. The last combat was against this fire elemental guy in a volcano that had lair actions, passive area damage and stuff and while it was incredible and gave us some challenge, I found myself away from the area where he could deal me passive damage but I couldn’t do anything else aside from spamming healing words in the ones that I could. 4 of us got downed but couldn’t get up

We had some special unique effect due to a NPC that gave us some resistance to the heat and shrouded us in a very resistante ice capsule when we got downed so we could atleast get out alive in case we failed the mission. By some miracle the ranger managed to get a crit and kill the guy but I couldn’t get rid of the feeling that I could have done more not only on this combat but all the others.

Ironicaly that combat was the first in the entire campaign that I didn’t fell either from my stupidity/inexperience or luck. The DM sometime after told me the guy was immune to charmed and a few other things so even if I found myself on position to do anything else most of my kit would be useless against him because a good chunk of my kit are debuff or control spells that rely on charmed.

I know it wasn’t the DM intention to either nullify my kit or make a combat where I couldn’t do much, after all, I am still inexperient and trying to improve.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. Does someone have a hint or advice on how to keep up and be useful for my team at this level of play?

(Sorry if somethings were hard to understand, english isn’t my first language)
