HTML and CSS: Design and Build Websites vs Learning Web Design: A Beginner’s Guide to HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Web Graphics /u/Remarkable-Map-2747 CSCQ protests reddit

Greetings, all! I am one professional whose expertise is primarily in networking. I learned Python via the Python Crash Course book, oddly enough, that stuck better than YouTube or a video course, which I find interesting as I am a hands-on, video-course type of learner.

But I am looking to transition from networking to software and have been trying to find a suitable route. I figured, why not start with web development?

I know that when it comes to books, a lot of times, not long after they get released, they go obsolete. All in all, I’m realistically looking for some advice and good book recommendations on web development to at least get myself started moving forward.

In the title of this forum, I mentioned two books. Please let me know your thoughts or, if possible, point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Veteran wants to find remote work soon in the USA, using BS Comp Sci degree. What are the best options? /u/butterbot619 CSCQ protests reddit

Due to family issues, commuting is not an option for the time being. I mistrust advice I’ve been given before, so I’m asking here.

I don’t really have much preference for a field. I’m assuming I’ll need certifications and personal projects besides just my degree. I’m also a veteran with a dozen years of operations experience, but I’m leaving that career behind.

I’m guessing: Data analyst Software Dev Webpage dev Any other options?

Which would be easier to find? Which would pay more?

Thanks you all, for your help.

Edit: I don’t expect it to be easy. Fortunately I have a full-time job for now, so I can take my time to develop the skills I’ll need in my spare time.

Trump (2016): “Megyn Kelly asked about highly-skilled immigration. The H-1B program is neither high-skilled nor immigration: these are temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay. I remain totally committed to eliminating rampant, widespread H-1B abuse and ending outrageous practices such as those that occurred at Disney in Florida when Americans were forced to train their foreign replacements. I will end forever the use of the H-1B as a cheap labor program, and institute an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program. No exceptions.”

Anyone here try the Salesforce Developer path? /u/LooWillRueThisDay CSCQ protests reddit

Based on LinkedIn, Salesforce Dev postings get alot less posting than regular SWE postings. I have a CS degree and some (minimal) Salesforce admin experience before that which is why I am considering this, and because I couldn’t get a SWE job for the life of me lol. That being said, I totally get that there is alot less postings for Salesforce Developers as well.

To be honest, I can’t say being a Salesforce Developer sounds interesting, and I hear it sucks working with Apex, but I’m down to try anything. Anyone here try getting some Trailhead certificates and going down this route?

There is part of me that feels I am late on this boat though, I remember a coworker suggesting me to go down this path way back in 2018 since he was making good money as a Salesforce Dev.

[Q]: would you guys pick stability over TC? /u/Thin-Category-5640 CSCQ protests reddit

Hey guys! I’m currently in quite the pickle. I’m at a company in NYC (230k TC) and I got a verbal offer last week from a FAANG company.

My current YOE is 3, and I have friends in FAANG that are making in the mid 300s TC.

Would you guys go for the TC rather than stability? My current company hasn’t done any layoffs, only PIP, but I’ve been told that I’m a high performer, so I’m not worried about this.

When talking to others, but company’s TC caps out for an IC around 450k (500+ if you’re a superstar)

I have been studying a lot the past year, did CS50 with Harvard, studied html, CSS, and JavaScript on freeCodeCamp, and I also explored other tutorials on my own, and I started my own personal project building a chessboard. Unfortunately I hadn’t really gotten into GitHub much yet and I recently had to wipe my hard drive which cost me all my coding projects, so now I have learned the hard way that I need to use it.

I believe I have to learn Liquid and also React now from what has come up in our discussions.

How do I move forward to fill the gap and land this 6-figure job? I need to be really really good at it and have been told it’s not difficult per se but I think I have a knowledge gap to close for sure.

Coding assessment given over Christmas /u/ok_compu4er CSCQ protests reddit

Hi everyone and merry late Christmas! I was given a coding assessment on the 23rd of December and was given 3 days to complete it. It was 5 exercises, each requiring an independent React component to build and one creating a REST API with Node and Express, with READMEs for each exercise. I was hosting Christmas Eve and Christmas at my house so I was a bit worried about timing but I emailed the recruiter on Christmas Eve asking for an extension but they haven’t replied (and still no reply). It was due today at noon and I unfortunately wasn’t able to complete exercises 3-5 so I just wrote thorough steps on what I would’ve done to complete them.

I’m wondering if this is fair? Or would it be an automatic rejection since I haven’t been able to complete it?
