Lol – bit funny considering how they tried to do the same thing to engineers after Zuck’s “AI which function as mid-level engineers” comment on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

Coding at University vs Coding at work /u/dsy19 CSCQ protests reddit

Hi everyone, I’m a computer science student at 2nd year in Italy.

The question that I would like to ask you is that: how different is programming at University vs programming at work? Is that more difficult than rigorous coding teached at university?

What are your experiences about that?

We studied for 3 semesters C language, including memory model, algorithm & data structures, operative system programming (synchronisation of processes, semaphores, … ) and others complex things.

What is my next step? /u/Need4Cookies CSCQ protests reddit

Hello everyone!

I’m a 29F from Greece and I have 5 years of experience working with PHP as a backend developer (internship excluded)!

I want to find a new job, using Python, C# or Golang that I’m currently learning.

Q1: I’ll start applying to remote jobs across Europe, but I’m not sure how to call my degree is in English, so I can put it in my cv. My degree title is “COMPUTER AND INFORMATICS ENGINEERING ΤΕ”, the school is “SCHOOL OF SCIENCES”, the department is “DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATICS” and the degree’s level is “UNDERGRADUATE”.

Q2: Since I want to change programming language, I’m willing to get into a company in a Junior level, but I need at least 25.000€ per year minimum, which I don’t know if it is possible.

Q3: How can I be a more appealing candidate? Should I get some certificates? Should I make projects to fill my GitHub? If yes, please give me some ideas please!

Notes: I currently have one child under 2, and we are trying for a second child, so I’ll have 6 months fully paid leave to study and do whatever I need to become the perfect candidate! I want to leave my company because they don’t give me options to grow and learn, and they are not paying well.

boss won’t give me tasks during notice period and I’m going crazy. what do I do? /u/kay000000 CSCQ protests reddit

so I told my boss last week that I’m quitting. since then I’ve asked multiple times for more tasks because I’ve completed the ones assigned to me but he just won’t give me anything. I also don’t have anything else I need to prep for handover. In one work day, I’ve finished reading a whole book, watched a movie, researched on cameras I wanted to buy and doom scrolled Reddit for at least an hour. I’m going stir crazy. This obviously wouldn’t be a problem if I was working from home but I still have to be in the office. I thankfully have a small booth to myself so I can do the above nonsense without anyone seeing but I just can’t do this for another two months. I know I should work on my own projects but I honestly just want to do work.

My team is really big like 12 people and my boss recently remarked that upper management felt our team’s output was too small for the number of people so I know there isn’t enough projects to go around. Even if I wanted to do my own projects, we don’t have any QA resource and the projects I can do work for is classified under a sub team that I’m not sure I should bother without my boss’ permission since I’m leaving.

I’ve already been dealing with not having much to do for a good 6 months (part of why I’m quitting), but the idea that I really will have absolutely NOTHING is driving me nuts. (why give valuable projects to a soon to be ex employee whose performance doesn’t matter when there are other employees who need projects too?)

I know I’m in an incredibly lucky position to have a job and not have to do anything to earn money. but I cannot reiterate how slowly time passes.

What can I do? Should I keep bugging my boss for work? Should I just pay off my notice period (I’m allowed to do that in my country but that means I’d be quitting with -1 month pay for 2 months of work)? Can I request to be terminated earlier if there’s no work for me? Am I just being overly anxious about work and maybe when projects start trickling in he’ll give me something? Or do I have the right idea about this whole thing?

please send help

Is it worth it to do a masters in CS with a non-CS bachelor? /u/hazedfaste CSCQ protests reddit

I have a bachelor in economics and working for more than a year. I realised I enjoy building things and see it work, but I have very rudimentary skills in VBA and SQL. I’ve been thinking about doing a masters in CS to have a set of hard skills and not just a bunch of theory like in economics but I’m afraid not having a bachelors will put me at a big disadvantage in knowledge and skills so I was wondering if it would be worth it to invest the time and money.

Need help with system design /u/Marvinas-Ridlis CSCQ protests reddit

I am senior android native app developer who needs help preparing for an upcoming interview, specifically system design stage which will be backend focused.

I am looking for an experienced backend developer or a software architect who could jump on a 1 hour call with me, share his screen, design a specific system on Excalidraw and teach me about required components, performance improvements, bottlenecks and etc.

Here is the feature I want to prepare for:

Using Excalidraw, design a debit card issuing system using a 3rd party API that will handle card printing and delivering.

Given amount of time for this in my interview will be only 45min. So I dont expect to design entire system, focus will be on core functionality for satisfying the defined requirements.

System will involve things like client, api gateway, databases, load balancers, cdn network, cache, sharding and adress other things like scalability, reliability and so on.

Structure is this: 1. Define functional and non-functional requirements 2. Draw high level diagram 3. Define entities (tables) 4. Define apis (parameters, requests, responses) 5. Do a deep dive (satisfy non-functional requirements, improve performance, identify and fix bottlenecks and etc.)
