another year of Leagues, another reminder of just how dogshit of a boss Abyssal Sire truly is /u/ZukMeRaw Old School RuneScape!
This boss is like a go to on what NOT to do when designing a boss encounter for fun:
-
Awkward setup phase
-
Long downtimes with nothing to do but sit there and watch phase transitions
-
Inconsistent mechanic procs, such as when tentacles are actually stunned after casting shadow magic, or whether or not you can get an attack in on the first tick of phase 3
-
Janky click registration, sometimes resulting in action stalls
-
Damaging tiles calculating damage prior to visual cues
-
Boring DPS check during phase 3
It is PAINFUL to ever have to do Sire because of these issues, and a couple others. This boss just screams that it is in dire need of a rework. It doesn’t need to be made easier, make it more challenging for all I care, as long as there’s some form of actual skill expression somewhere and no time wasting cinematics mid-fight. Jagex has proven they’ve gotten so much better at bossing design over recent years, I have faith the team can make Sire a much better encounter without sacrificing its intended difficulty or TTK.
