Why do people idolize celebrities or put them on a higher pedestal than themselves.
I always found parasocial relationships obsessive, unhealthy, and weird. I just can’t fathom how people live vicariously through people they don’t know.
Like I’ve seen people spend their hard earn money just to have a chance to give a multi millionaire celebrity a present as if the celebrity knew you existed beforehand.
YOU DONT KNOW CELEBRITIES AND THEY DONT KNOW YOU.
Like people think famous people are like these supernatural beings that can do anything when in reality these “celebrities” are just regular people with rich lifestyles that happen to be recognized for their talent. Like your probably more talented at drawing then like Taylor Swift or something like that but put them on a higher pedestal since they’re recognized for the talent they’re really good at. And since you put them on a higher pedestal and made up this persona of who you think they are once they mess up in your eyes you completely turn on them when you never even knew who they were in the first place.( Which is why I think viewing a celebrity as a “role model” is dumb)
Don’t get me wrong I think it’s fine to admire and draw inspiration from celebrities but to idolize them and put them on a higher pedestal than yourselves is wrong and weird.
A celebrity is like a stranger you see when your walking down the sidewalk, you wouldn’t want anything and to happen to them but you don’t care for them on personal level since you never met them.
At the end of the day, each and everyone of us are all human beings so you should never idolize another human being because they’re famous.
