What were people doing that got replaced by having phone? /u/Cold_Piece_5501 No such thing as stupid questions

I’m not trying to sound old/grumpy or like I think I’m better than other people I’m just genuinely curious.

I don’t think that my phone usage is super out of the ordinary and I’ll be looking at it in class, at the gym, hanging out with other people, alone in my room, if I want to avoid someone nearby, and tons of other times.

Back when nobody had cellphones what were we all doing instead of that? I’ll just check it for a short enough period of time there wouldn’t really be anything else to “do” but it seems like social interactions must have been at least a bit different in a society where that isn’t an option.

What did people spend this time on before they could spend it on their phone?
