Context: 22M, T10 school with 3.99 GPA
Currently evaluating New Grad offers (BB is verbal but 99% gonna get it), so would love some insight.
I like Bloomberg because it’s better WLB and I’ll have time for my side hustle (professional video editing, which I love doing – recruiters said this is not against policy at either firm as long as I disclose). Also NYC has a more vibrant lifestyle than CA. None of the layoff or reorg worries that Meta has. It’s seems nice to be on the “outside” during a tumultuous time with lots of AI advances and political changes.
But Meta has some pros, like its hiring caliber is higher and would help me stand out for recruiting. I also know TC grows faster, but I won’t stay for more than 2 years. Also, Bloomberg will always be one of the stablest firms and that might make me complacent against leaving (getting comfortable with risk is a crucial skill that Meta would teach me).
I don’t aim for any cutting-edge tech companies – I’m not that ambitious. In 2-4 years, I want to work in a LCOL East Coast suburb area with a great WLB and 250k TC as a senior SWE.
So I wouldn’t go Meta -> BB or BB -> Meta, but instead, I’d aim for Meta/BB -> remote Microsoft/suburban Google
Am I limited myself in terms of exit opportunities by choosing the less risky, less stressful Bloomberg? Or is Meta just the best for a New Grad even with my not-highly-ambitious goals?
