can you play a dlc through a steam family share? /u/reelakuma Steam on Reddit

bit new to reddit so i hope this is the right place to ask something like this!

so i was wanting to play the cyberpunk dlc: phantom liberty, me and my bf just recently switched over to the new steam sharing system. i have played cyberpunk though his share (he owns the game) a few months ago, and i was wanting to play the dlc but when i go to purchase, its saying i cannot buy it for my account since i do not own the game. ok! so if i were to buy it as a gift for his account, would i be able to access the dlc on my own account? or could i log into his account and play it? would love any help .
