I don’t watch South Park as often as I used to in high school but I still love anything Trey and Matt do having seen Cannibal! the Musical for the first time last year (Three times on the DVD including with both commentary tracks!), and for many years I’ve wanted Bigger Longer and Uncut as a stage production, particularly because I know The Book of Mormon also exists (though I myself have yet to see it).
A long time ago I brought this up on Whisper and a user messaged me that maybe they could have a Saddam Hussein as a stage puppet and I have it all planned out in my head how I would orchestrate some of the songs on a proscenium stage like “Kyle’s Mom is a Bitch” and “I’m Super”, (In Kyle’s mom for instance, all the different countries would be located within the audience space or and Cartman would point to each one for their spotlight in the song). I also have always had it in my head that in some productions at least Timmy would pull a chain of letters onto the stage announcing when the intermission starts and stops, and Jimmy would introduce the show and go over the safety regulations – this could be there time to shine in the stage version as neither appear in the movie. A rendition of the South Park theme would be sung by the cast during the Curtain Call after the reprise of “Mountain Town”.
As for the story itself I’ve never had any ideas for how I would change it or what I would take out, but it undoubtedly go through some major alterations if it actually became a stage production and I would be curious as to what anyone here – particularly those who work in theater would change. I myself have only taken a few classes on the subject so I definitely don’t have all the know how and terminology on the scene, but I definitely would go to see this musical if it ever came to my town, and would probably not be able to resist singing along to “Kyle’s Mom…”
