Our LCS let’s us use the back room to play DnD. Unfortunately, it looked like an unfinished basement and was extremely dimly lit as the overhead lights were completely dead, not to mention were like 20ft up so they were hard to troubleshoot. They were relying on the Christmas lights when I first got there. This was pretty disappointing to me, and frustrating to the other members.
So, I started with the shop lights that were mounted in different methods. Didn’t find out that they were motion sensors until one died while mounting the other and everything went dark. Which is awesome because we no longer have to worry about unplugging them. Just leave. This made everyone happier.
Then, I ended up buying the decorative ivy and LED lights. I enjoyed that they were completely customizable so we could set different themes and moods for the campaign. The LEDs are (in this Pic) set to flicker like torch lights. Again, greatly accepted.
But then, with all those added, the room was still… baron. Just 2x4s, tubing, excess inventory, and insulation. And i like settings mood. So, i asked the owner permission to go all out, and he approved. So, time for another improvement.
A few days later, my paycheck hit, and I started my investigation check. I searched for all kinds of things, trying to find something that would give a nice cave vibe, cover enough space and not be cheap, rippable material.
I eventually found some 10×6.5 vinyl back drops. Even 3 of them just didn’t cover enough. But 4 would have been too many. So, I bought some black fabric and used it to fill in the void. This worked well because it left a curtain for the card shops employees to get behind there to get some of the inventory and supplies. I also got some black sheets to work as a ceiling. Unfortunately, to set this addition up, I had to take all my previous work down, cut the sheets so I could fit the chains through for the lights, and re-mount the ivy’s, LEDs and Christmas lights.
There’s 2 parties that I play with. Friday group got to see it last night. Everyone was impressed and loved the look and the feel. Saturday will get to see it today. I’m thinking of adding a table cloth to add to the overall vibe.
I put in about 13 hours across multiple days (including removal and re-adding) and a little over $300 worth of supplies in total. I’m proud of myself, and hopefully yall appreciate it as well.
