Switch to Developer Heavy Role /u/zed-woo CSCQ protests reddit

Currently, coming up on 2 years at a role that’s heavily involved in infrastructure, architecture, and high level designs. We design roadmaps, POC our implementation, and help teams follow along. I don’t have much exposure to coding or developing projects. The only time I code is when I go out of my way to automate something or make a tool only useful to me. I mostly feel like support for the dev teams. Most of the work is architecting designs and configuring proxies. We get experience trouble shooting cloud and kubernetes.

I have an offer at a much smaller company where the hours would be a little more intense but it’s a developer heavy role. I’m a little worried that I won’t be able to switch jobs or move up if I stay my current path as I’m not very exposed to developing. For example, I never experienced a code review.

What are people’s thoughts of my situation and how should I proceed? Take the job at a smaller company for similar pay? Hold out for a job with higher pay that’s more developer heavy? Thank you! Appreciate the help!
