One of my players wants to try long distance /u/Blackangel466 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

One of my players is going away for some time and he is trying to convince me to play dnd from his laptop. The problem is that the rest of the party (about 6 people) will be at the table physically and it’s not the same if he is there virtually. Also there are technical problems like the fact that the place we play doesn’t have wifi so we can’t connect and I as the dm don’t have a device to facilitate him like a laptop. I suggested he could pair up with another player and maybe take the role of the diety or patron for a cleric or Warlock accordingly and sort of play the role of guy in the chair that looks up rullings and spells and makes strategies. What do you guys suggest
