I’m a player, and we’re in a group of 6, playing together for 4 years.
My friend is playing a naive captain character. The character is a 16 year old who kinda just wandered into the DND campaign and became the captain of the ship because high charisma and no criminal record. From the beginning of the campaign they never role played much, they always kinda waited for someone to call their name, but there’s been more than a few times that they were really talkative, and very into it. That’s not necessarily the problem, but it feels like something has changed recently. Like, they feel less enthusiastic about playing or talking.
Half of the reason is probably that the characters don’t respect her as a true captain. The in game joke is that she’s the mascot because she has fans who will occasionally approach us and is canonically a millionaire. Even after 4 years, she doesn’t act like a captain, she is the same naive kid who was thrown into the drivers seat out of convenience. Maybe that finally started weighing them down. The other half is that other characters might be consistently stealing the spotlight. During combat we kinda look to the rouge to save us from bad situations. The rouge has high intimidation and the best damage output. The player is also the best role player in the group, so she kinda leads the role play and becomes the leader during combat or intense situations.
I died recently and brought on a new character. He is a fan of the DND group, and knows of the captain. He thinks she’s some badass cutthroat, take no prisoners captain. During that time, I’m going to try to hype them up and pep talk them since he’s a very non logical character. But any other ideas on how to help them enjoy playing this character again?
