A warning to stay away from TheJacketMakerDOTie/com etc /u/PhilOakey /r/malefashionadvice

Hello all,

I’ll start by saying that, I recently fell in love with leather clothing. Jackets in particular. That love came from something a barber said to me before Christmas. I got a 0.5 back and sides, light trim up top, and slicked back. He told me that he hoped I had a leather jacket at home because I’d look fantastic along with the h@ir (getting around filter). So I thought about it and bought one. He was right, as modestly as I can possibly say it. I got a different jacket to the one from the company I’m complaing about here.

Fast forward to 31/12 and I simply google “mens leather jackets Ireland”, and TheJacketMaker was the first result. Worth nothing at this point that they didn’t have that google (ad) symbol thing beside it, so I don’t think it was paid-for adspace. Rather, they’re the most frequently visited or something, I don’t know, not my area.

Anyway, I find a jacket I like the look of and pull the trigger. 320 Euro/270 GBP/330 USD, and was delivered a week later. All the reviews on their items on their site are fake, which I only realised after. The jacket turns out to be a piece of shit. Not leather, but some cheap ass, foul smelling, ill fitting piece of crap. It didn’t come from Ireland either, it came from Pakistan. To add insult to injury, the customs paperwork taped to the box valued the jacket at FORTY Euro.

I started the return process and was given a few options via email:

  1. I want to keep the jacket and get a partial refund of 70%..
  2. I want a 50% Refund to my original payment method and exchange. We will make sure there are no issues this time.
  3. I want a 40% Refund to my original payment method and exchange for a Made-To-Measure.
  4. I am just done with The Jacket Maker & need a full refund.

I chose option 1, so they still win, but it made the most sense financially. To return it I’d have to send it to California, which would cost a fortune, and it would be ages before I get a refund. So I got €224 back yesterday, and also gave the jacket to a charity shop.

Aside from being rougly 100 Euro lighter, what really pisses me off is that they were the first result on Google.

This all to say, lesson learned, and I’d advise anyone and everyone to stay away.
