Capturing PC’s for a session /u/Novae_- DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Hi, I have a session planned and at the end of it, I have a 1 round combat planned. The session and upcoming 2-3 sessions have a lot to do with one of the PC’s backstory’s and NPC’s and such, they would be the one I am capturing for 1 session. I would obviously do some scenes and conversations with them so they wouldn’t be left out at all. I had a two fold question with this –

1- Is capturing a PC a good idea in the first place? I see it as a good way to spice some things up, and they wouldn’t be missing out on any crucial time during their arc of their backstory coming into play. In fact they would be able to converse with one of the big bads, solve some looming questions about their past, and piece together the plan for the BBEG group. As a player, getting captured in a combat would have me understand it’s nothing I did to fail, just one of those things the DM has planned to happen for juicy story reasons.

2-if they are getting captured in a combat, should I give the chance/opportunity to not be captured via a saving throw? This would make the capture feel more raw and real, but then begs the question if I wanted them captured for the story why not just do it where the player has no chance to not be in the first place? And if I am to capture them without them having a chance to avoid, should it be via power word stun, 9th level sleep, etc?

Looking for some helpful and friendly advice and insight. Thanks!
