Startup vs Large Company for Summer Internship /u/silverfisher27 CSCQ protests reddit

Currently, I intern at a local tech startup doing web dev stuff. My class schedule allows me to work during the semester, which I’ve been doing since October of last year. I like the job and I like the people I work with. It’s in person which I like, but I also have a 45 minute commute to and from work which sucks. I work with my mentor and myself, there are other developers but they do work on the mobile app, so it’s a very small team and company overall. I enjoy the flexibility the startup environment gives me. I will be able to intern there as long as I want, and when I graduate I would most likely get a job offer.

On the other hand, I’m in my last round of interviews for a different more traditional internship role during the summer. In this job I would also be doing web dev work, but there are some major differences comparing this company to my current one. For one, this is a large multi billion dollar company with thousands of employees. I would be working on a team with more developers. Also, this position would be fully remote vs the in person role I have now. This company also claims to bring on over 90% of interns to work part time until they graduate, which is a similar situation to my current position. It is a fintech company, which meshes well with my CS+Econ double major, something the startup doesn’t do as much.

I’ve thought of some pros and cons for each, but I would appreciate some outside opinions. My pay would be the same at both companies.

Startup

Pros Cons
Laid back environment and scheduling 45 minute commute
In person Company could go under
Fun working on something in it’s early stages Not finance/econ related
I like my coworkers

Big Company

Pros Cons
Fully remote, no commute Likely less laid back
Fintech Fully remote (remote is pro and con idk)
More resume experience The unknown is scary
