Ideas for long term questline for immortality /u/rypiethedragonfly DnD: Roll for Initiative!

One of my players is playing a human necromancer. One of his aspirations is finding out how to become immortal. This is a long term homebrew campaign so all ideas are welcome.

He has told me specifically that Lichdom is only a backup option if all else fails. He’s not an evil character but I think if he chose to try and become a Lich I would make the power consume his once good intentions lol. I’ve tossed around vampirism as an option but I’m not sure if he’d take the bait on that. Also thought about becoming an agent of a god but his character isn’t very religious so I think a God would sniff out his real intentions quickly, this seems more like it would be a perk to becoming a devote follower of said God

I’ve looked into a boon of immortality but would want that to be a long questline. Something like “you must find who has this boon and slay them to pass it onto yourself”. Maybe you guys could help me riff on that idea?

Thanks in advance!
