Bullet hell Inferno (BIS mage cape minigame) /u/CopperMarten Old School RuneScape!

From Jagex’s most recent news post, it sounds like the Eldritch Veil will not be our long-term BIS mage cape. Instead, it sounds like they want to release a more powerful cape in the future, and the Eldritch Veil will be a stepping stone toward it.

There’s been a lot of talk lately about where the BIS mage cape should come from. We currently have the Infernal Cape, a BIS melee cape from the Inferno (a difficult wave-based challenge). We also have Dizana’s Quiver, the BIS ranged cape from the Colosseum (a difficult wave-based challenge).

I would love to see this cycle completed with a third difficult wave-based challenge.

My pitch? Bullet hell Inferno.

Instead of advanced prayer switching and pillars, the bullet hell Inferno focuses on advanced movement. I’m imagining something like Hallowed Sepulchre or Sol Heredit’s enrage phase, but stretched out to a full PvM minigame.

Now, not everyone likes spammy bullet hell attacks like Ahkka’s orb phase. But that’s not necessarily what an OSRS bullet hell has to look like. Instead, I’d focus on pattern-based waves of projectiles. (Well put, u/Brvcifer.)

To get the imagination flowing, imagine something like these in the OSRS engine:

Not copies of these exact patterns of course, but there’s a lot of open design space! I think it’s the perfect thing to close out the wave-based minigame cycle while having a fresh, distinct identity.
