Hey there r/wow, After some time of mount farming i thought some people may be interested in how fast such a process could be and share my experiences and thoughts. First of all the starting point was chosen when i discovered the page www.dataforazeroth.com and prepared a spreadsheet for planning my mount collecting journey. I have been collecting mounts before, but not with a real systematic approach. Just buying random mounts from exalted factions and such. Starting in June of 2022 I was at 517 mounts. We were in Season 3 of Shadowlands (I believe) and the content drought motivated me to do some more farming. Today I am at 931. With datafromazeroth and https://simplearmory.com, two tools that helped me a lot I was able to start my list of todos and tried to rank them in a way from simple to hard to get. With some mounts missing from vendors I was rather quickly at a point where I had to put in more effort in farming. Here are some things that I did
Some explanation. There is a slight uptick in 2023. it seems like datafromazeroth decided to add horde-mounts to the mount total. A decision that was taken back shortly after. The great increase in 2024 was due to the load of new mounts added in pandaria remix. That was a glorious time. A overview on my collected mounts by the categories from simplearmory:
What were the hardest to farm mounts for me?
Some side effects from my mount farming:
I am exited to see how much more mounts I can get. Let me know if you have specific questions I can answer for you. Depending on interest I would also like to write some guides on current mount farming, since some of the old guides online need to be updated. submitted by /u/ScienceNye |

With some mounts missing from vendors I was rather quickly at a point where I had to put in more effort in farming. Here are some things that I did Started to make some alts and level them. Got class exclusive mounts (like Warlock and Paladin). Did all the class mount quests possible (some classes even have several) Started to park several alts on spawnpoints for rare mobs that can drop mounts. Depending on what mobs they are you might have to level that alt to maxlevel. Started to farm legacy content like dungeons and raids that can drop mounts. Regularly read wow related news like wowhead.com and such to updates on new mounts (like twitch drops) or legacy content that can be done solo Read up on Meta-Achievements that grant mounts (back then there was like the ones in Mechagon and Nazjatar or all the dungeon/raid ones) Park an alt on the Blackmarket Auction house. Shadowlands was a great time to make gold and I was able to get some millions. Mostly all of my gold went into the BMAH. According to my list, the most expensive one that I bid and won was G.M.O.D for ~5 mil gold. Try to farm with strangers for achievements that can not be done alone. You can always scan for, or create a group for these kind of things. Alt-spam those seasonal bosses for their mounts. If its Valentines day, easter or halloween, the dungeon queues are not that super long. Waiting times are rather short for healers or tanks. You do not even have to be all that good in these roles for these tank and spank bosses. Always prioritized mounts in the trading post. I also try to have at least 800 tender as a backup, because sometimes there are several mounts to buy. my mount journey Some explanation. For some reasons the “Swift Zulian Panther” took me ages to farm. I was at 1200 kills for the boss when it popped up in the BMAH. I just bought it to finally lay that todo to rest. “Snapback Scuttler” from the Nazjatar Meta also took ages. I just had one rare that did not want to spawn, no matter how often I looked for it. When I then farmed paragon reputation for a second alt, I could not believe my eyes when I came across that rare. “Grand Black War Mammoth” also was in the 900 kill range, making it statistically rather late to drop. Island expeditions from BFA and garrison invasions are some of the worst events to me. They take a lot of time and I have really bad luck with mounts. Haven’t seen a single mountdrop in the garrison up to today. Some side effects from my mount farming: Always loved leveling alts. They also do really help out when camping for rare mobs or at dungeon entrances. I currently have 60 alts with an average level of 75 (so most of them on level 80, thanks to the exp bonus from the 20 year anniversary) I got into Mythic plus dungeons. I pugged my way to Keystone Master for the last 4 seasons. Something I really wasn’t into before I took my Mount journey more serious. Since I spent loads of gold on the BMAH (All in all I spent around 29 mil gold. If you choose to fill some of your open mount spots that you just get tired of farming, you can spend loads of gold there!) I had to also get into making gold. I read up some guides and followed some threads on r/woweconomy. I installed TSM and found some nieches that make me enough gold to keep me somewhat at a stable income. Got a better balance between gaming and personal life. With all the spread sheets for mount/achievement/kill tracking I had a list for stuff I wanted to in a certain week or day. With this I also started to plan for other stuff, like cleaning or getting some exercise. Something I had problems as a little bit of a gaming addict tbh. I am exited to see how much more mounts I can get. Let me know if you have specific questions I can answer for you. Depending on interest I would also like to write some guides on current mount farming, since some of the old guides online need to be updated. submitted by /u/ScienceNye [link] [comments]
