Is it worth moving to Seattle? /u/Limebeluga CSCQ protests reddit

I’ve been working as an ML scientist at FAANG in Atlanta. Outside of FAANG, I feel like the ML scene here is lacking/small. I also work remotely – so there’s very little chance for me to interact with other great scientists in person. In addition, I feel like if I lose my job here in Atlanta, it’ll be hard to find other jobs/companies that’ll pay as well as I get paid currently.

So, I’m considering moving my family to Seattle (wife + 1 kid and 1 on the way) because of the above reasons. Do folks in Seattle feel fulfilled with the access to other great tech/ML talents there? I know there are a lot of ML conferences hosted in Seattle + meet ups + great tech scene, but I wonder how folks in Seattle are utilizing this and just wondering if I’m just over romanticizing being in Seattle…

Any anecdotes + advice on this matter would be appreciated. Thank you!
