Hi! I this is my first time posting and I need advice on dealing with a player who is being rude to me.
A few years ago I (F27) had a bad experience with my former DM and I quit D&D. In July I moved to a new city and I found a local RPG club, so I decided to give it a go. From the very beginning I felt so welcomed and the DM was so nice to me that I started to enjoy D&D again. The party (3M) turned out to be very kind too and we soon got on well even though they’re on their late 30s or early 40s.
Last month a new player (our DM’s best friend) joined the party. He was definitely a power player and I was astonished at his vast knowledge. He even stood up to the DM several times, thankfully the DM always handles the situation with a deft touch. The rest of the party trusted him because he was obviously far ahead of us, but he quickly started to use our characters as puppets: he often came up with a plan and wanted us to follow it blindly. When I stood my ground because I wanted to take my own choices, he would refer to me as “annoying”.
Since this new player took control of the party I felt constantly dismissed but I tried to convince myself that it wasn’t so deep. The last straw happened last night, when he called me a “dickhead” in front of everyone because I told something that he wanted to keep as a secret to a NPC. I ended up on the verge of tears, the DM realised and we called it a day earlier than usual.
Although I love this campaign fondly, I can’t take it anymore. Am I being too dramatic? Should I talk to the DM even though this new player is his friend? Or should I just leave?
TDLR: my DM’s friend joined the party, he’s treating me poorly and I don’t know how to cope with that without making a fuss.
