Joined a Group of Strangers /u/Ok-Calendar-6387 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

Recently, I (35F) joined an online DnD game with a group of complete strangers who were looking for another person to add to their ongoing campaign. I spoke with the DM beforehand and we came up with a backstory that would fit into her world and we played a short Christmas oneshot with a couple of the players in the group so we could sort of feel each other out and see how we vibed. I was a little self-conscious, since I’m pretty old compared to the other players and the game was very late in the evening, so I was worried I’d get a little loopy before the end.

And the oneshot was fun! It made me excited to play in their weekly campaign, since the world seemed extremely interesting. With the holidays in the way though, we didn’t meet for probably three weeks after the oneshot.

But when we did finally have a session, it was amazing! It was funny and full of mystery and the combat felt dangerous and the story ended on a cliffhanger. There was a good mix of plot and player shennanigans. My character fit in well with the current party composition and everyone was nice and friendly and willing to answer any questions I had about house-rules or homebrewed lore.

TL;DR: I played online with a group of strangers who I have very little in common with, and I had a blast. Faith in humanity slightly restored.
