Steam Publishers and their Bad Sale Practices /u/EmoLotional Steam on Reddit

Just a heads up, recently I have noticed more than usual activity on this, many Steam games even non-legacy games are being put on sale and then released on other platforms for free, although the most recent one was a gray-area (amazon prime and bioshock) it is still something to be aware of. Sadly there is no way to know what will release for free by the publisher/developer, during the winter sales I waited ontil epic and others stopped giving away free games so I can make sure my basket was full with games that wont go for free anytime soon, but this has been an increased problem.
The most recent outright scammy thing was Dark and Darker’s legendary status/membership which released for the first time (finally) as a DLC on steam, making the process of upgrading the game way easier, and then after less than a few days it seems like they released it for free on the epic store, for a day but still.

Lots of people wrote negative reviews because the DLC costs around 30$ and then they saw it for free.
Just something to be aware of, not much can be gained here since those things are allowed to happen by steam, and obviously publishers having double contracts can be sketchy. Now obviously it is nice that they allow more players in etc etc, but it discourages buying anything “for later” or in general in some cases.
That said the collection of Bioshock is slowly being given with amazon prime as gog-games codes, I do not know if they do that in general because of steam saying that they basically sell licenses or something along those lines, but it still affects people who do not know any better and still buy the bundles on sale only for it to be free few days later. Note that this is not directly steam’s fault BUT it is a window that is usually abused or at least feels scammy to the customers.

There are many such examples but just only included some recent ones to keep in mind. Cheers!
