How do I keep my pants up at my waist without suspenders? /u/Fantastic-Elk-2317 /r/malefashionadvice

So, I’m a bigger guy (6’4″) with a large middle, a 42 or 44 waist fits comfortably at my belly button, depending on the brand. I definitely look better with my pants up there than down towards my hips, but I can’t get pants to stay up there with a belt. A stiff leather belt will make my pants fall all the way down, since it’s at my widest point, something with elastic always slips down to my hips when I sit or move.

I know the advice for this is always suspenders, but I’ve tried and basically hate them. I feel like they just accentuate the belly and undo the benefits of the high waist and they make me look like a hillbilly in anything less formal than business wear. Some people can definitely pull them off, but they don’t look good on me. Worst of all, they also want to let my pants slip down below my belly, unless I keep them so tight that I end up feeling like I’m wearing a heavy backpack all day and get sore shoulders.

Does anyone have any tricks to wear a belt and keep my pants at my belly button? Maybe some style or brand of belt or pants that might work better? Do I need pants so high waisted that they’re above my belly button when my belly starts to narrow, like I see in some clothes from the 40s? If so, where on earth can I find those?

Edited to add: I have some suits with side adjusters and just never feel like my pants are secure enough with them, especially if I want to walk briskly and/or have anything in my pockets.
