Confused about SteamFamily Cool Down Change? is this normal? Anyone else have this?

Maybe I’m stupid , I tried looking this up, and everywhere I did I got the result “If you join in a steam family and you leave or are booted, you can’t join another one (except for the one you just left or got kicked from) or CREATE a new steam family for 1 year. The cool down is one year from what I understand.

(Idk if this makes a difference but I’m on my steamdeck, cause I’m with my fiance and her family for Christmas/new years. Packing my compact almost 3k PC for check in just seems tacky lol)

I decide I don’t wanna be in a steam family with my close highschool friends and wanted to make one to include my younger sister and fiancee instead. Realized that I’d have to wait a year but ultimately decided to bite the bullet and left. Thought I’d treat it as a late sorta gift for next Christmas/new years cause they’d get what is like 200+ games.

Point is I go to do this, and out of curiosity I click the create family button.

I’m given a box with text on it telling me about how this isn’t normally done and that instead of waiting (insert absurd number of days) I can just make a new family now. I skimmed over this cause I just understood the fact I could do the thing I thought I’d have to wait for NOW instead. Didn’t bother screenshotting this or taking a pic with my phone. I keep looking up to see if this is normal. But have yet to find anything. Is this specific change in their policy, new rule? Maybe I’m stupid but I’m curious if anybody else has gotten a similar prompt.

Leaving a steam family and immediately making a new one without having to wait a year. Is that something people can do now. I went back to the page that explains all this and it hasn’t changed.

Anyone else have this happen? (Alot of yapping but I just wanted to explain it all out.)
