What do you use for dummy data when you test databases? /u/No-Issue-9136 CSCQ protests reddit

I’m a full stack dev creating software that interfaces with various databases that have hierarchical structures and relationships.

Because the data is confidential i needed dummy data for my dev environment.

I used AI to generate me a database of all 151 gen one Pokémon, their types and evolutions.

I stopped telling people because nobody else at work gets it and they thought i was weird, but I did this for a few reasons:

  1. It’s a decent sized dataset

  2. Its entirety is burned in my head for life

  3. Because it’s burned in my head I instantly know if a query didn’t pull all the results it should have

  4. Because Pokémon are so well known I don’t even have to give the AI context when troubleshooting a bug, it sees that me returning Ekans first degree neighbors didn’t return Arbok and knows that’s a problem without any explanation.
