This game and 2007scape subreddit saved my life /u/Weak_Rice1708 Old School RuneScape!

Throwaway for obvious reasons.

I suffered a months-long episode of psychosis early this year that required an extended hospital stay and left me with severe cognitive deficits. On leaving the hospital I discovered I could barely read a sentence and couldn’t think about anything but the episode and the stupid things I did during it. My life felt like it was over with and depression looming over me at all times.

I played this game 20 years ago and for some reason decided to look into again. I found reading about it easier than other things because it made me nostalgic about my childhood. I didn’t want to play yet but visited this sub every day and lurked the posts. I sorted by top and went through every single thread, reading all the comments. Over the next few months I immersed myself in discourse about the game, reading the content and watching some of the content creaters. That exercise helped me cognitively and slowly I started regaining my mental capacity.

I’m about 80% recovered now and I really credit this community for that. I finally made an account to start playing and the braindead grind also helped me pass the recovery time. I’m almost 99 mining! The depression and anxiety are also improving with the dopamine hits this game provides.

Just a little gratitude post to say thanks.
