I need help: Still Suffering After Chlamydia Treatment /u/CartographerNo2026 Sex

Hi everyone,

I’m a 33-year-old male trying to figure out what’s going on with my health.

About three months ago, I had unprotected sex. A short while after, I started experiencing unusual symptoms: a weird sensation in my lower abdomen that felt like numbness or tingling, almost like pinching. I didn’t think much of it initially.

But over the next month, things got worse: strong lower abdominal pain, cramps, fever-like sensations, joint pain, weakness, and constant fatigue. At first, I thought it might be a seasonal virus, but after three weeks of no improvement, I went to my doctor. Routine tests (bloodwork, stool, etc.) came back inconclusive.

Finally, at 2.5 months post-exposure, I got tested for STIs and found out I was positive for chlamydia. My doctor was skeptical that it was causing my symptoms since they’re “not typical,” but a specialist I consulted said chlamydia could cause abdominal pain. I completed a full course of doxycycline (2x/day for 7 days) and finished treatment exactly 1 week ago.

4 days after starting the treatment I had a sort of improvement till 2 days after finishing the treatment. The problem is, my symptoms came back quite soon.

Now I’m left wondering: – is this an expected reaction and it takes time to heal from it? Or should I feel better already instead? How long does it usually take for symptoms to clear after treatment? – if it’s not normal, there’s maybe something else going on? I have been tested only for the most common STI STD (HIV, Epatitis, Gonorrea, siphilis), shall I test for something else? – Could this be a side effect of the infection, like reactive arthritis or another condition? – which doctor should I visit as next, considering my main doctor have no idea about sti and have no idea about what it is happening to me.. So I should look for specialists by myself.

I also have frequent urination and a need to drink a lot of water, like 5L a day.. Usually I drink 2. Is it common?

For context: all this symptoms prevent me to have a normal life since 2 months: I can’t work, I can’t do anything.. Since 1 month I can just cook and lie in my bed.. That’s why I am desperate.

Any advice, insights, or similar experiences would mean a lot right now. Thanks in advance!
