Why do white women want to be tan and Asian women want to be pale? /u/poptartsarefire No such thing as stupid questions

Okay this is not a racist question at all I’m being genuine- I’m Scottish and I’m very pale and I’ve been teased for it my whole life. But I know some Asian girls who feel the need to be more white. I understand the whole Americans want to be tan because it shows they can afford to travel and vacation, and Asian women want to be whiter because it shows you have the luxury of having a job indoors. But aren’t we past that in 2024? And a lot of Asian women have more melanin in their skin because places they live are hot, their heritage has evolved that way to protect their skin. And in places like Canada where it’s cold and snowy a lot we tend to be pale, because we don’t need the extra melanin. So if most Asian women have darker or more tanned skin then why is the beauty standard to be pale white? That just doesn’t seem fair. Why are we still making expectations from skin colour these days? It’s like making fun of a black woman for having wide hips or white women for having thinner hair. It’s just the way we’ve evolved and your body is different based on your ethnicity and heritage. So why do we shove everyone into the same western beauty standards? Personally, I’m sick of it and I don’t know WHY this is a thing
