As an altaholic, its a bit frustrating how little variety there is between rotations now. Not necessarily because they are the same, but they all end up feeling the same due to a ridiculous amount of procs you are constantly juggling. Every single rotation, almost without fail, revolves around juggling around half a dozen different procs and CDs. Its especially jarring when I go to Cata (which has plenty of flaws too, trust me) and the rotations genuinely feel very different from each other.
I think the reason why this has become such a big thing is that the talent trees are now enormous since DF. And in an effort to make them feel more complex and meaningful, they spam these procs throughout. Instead of just making most of the talents simple, uncomplex “5% increased lightning bolt crit chance”, Blizz instead has more “lightning bolt gives you a 25% chance to give you a proc that gives you 50% more damage on the next lightning bolt” or something along those lines. Just to be clear, there is plenty of the former, but theres so many talents now that the latter has become far, far more common. This also extends to debuffs. In 10 seconds, I put 11 debuffs on this mob Its just baffling.
The result is that every rotation kind of feels the same: bloated to extremes. Constantly juggling countless things to the point where no individual thing feels truly powerful.
And just to be clear, I am fine with this type of rotation as it is. The problem is that pretty much every single rotation is that type of rotation.
