Hi all, I just want to know if I’m being paranoid, or if the DM genuinely has it out for me.
So I’ve been playing with a group of good friends for just about a year. Party consists of an EK(me), Bard, Paladin, and a Ranger. (Sometimes a Monk and Cleric join us, but the pop in and out).
For the most part, I’m the one with the most DnD experience, the Bard has some, but that’s about it. Our DM is brand new too. We finally got to our second big dungeon, and the boss fight for Act 1 of our campaign. Being an EK, I love to pull some shenanigans with my weapon bond (the only good thing about EK besides the shield spell), and my DM knows this, and has generally been pretty cool about it.
Going into this dungeon, our DM said it was going to be very difficult, and he would very much try to kill us. Tough, but at least there was a warning. Being the only true fighter, (the PC for the Paladin doesn’t know what he’s doing most of the time) I was prepared to deal lots of damage, and get lots dealt to me. Fair.
We enter the boss fight, and I’m immediately targeted by every enemy. I have a high AC for level 5 (I think) at 21, and Shield puts it up to 26. Okay cool. Some enemies hit, and others he has me roll Dex saves to not get hit by arrows? Obviously my Dex saves are shit. Okay so I get hit. Whatever. I make it up to the boss, am about to land a hit and then “Make a dex save.” My eyebrows raise and I shrug. Make the dex save. 12. Two arms come from behind a pillar and grapple me. I’m a little pissed but whatever. I had already thrown one of my swords at the boss, he miraculously dodges. Then I remember I have another sword I’m weapon bonded with. It’s not currently in my inventory (I sold it. Long story.) So I have the genius idea to call my sword to me, and use it to surprise attack the baddie grappling me. He has me roll. Roll for my weapon bond. I roll a one. The sword comes to me, but detonates in my hand. The sword wasn’t magical. I shouldn’t have to roll to summon my sword, and it shouldn’t detonate.
We had to stop mid fight for OOC reasons. But I’m miffed. Am I being targeted? Is the DM just untrained? What is going on? Am I being paranoid?
Sorry for the ranting.
