Feeling useless playing bard, any hints? /u/UnitIndependent7980 DnD: Roll for Initiative!

My party is as follow (We are all lvl 13):
– Half-elf Hexblade/paladin
– Half-drow Rogue/Ranger
– Dragonborn Figher
– Variant Human Fighter
– Variant Human EloBard (Me)

I am the only support of the party and while the campaign has an amazing story and some breaks between combats when things get real I feel like I ain’t doing as much as I could. The last combat was against this fire elemental guy in a volcano that had lair actions, passive area damage and stuff and while it was incredible and gave us some challenge, I found myself away from the area where he could deal me passive damage but I couldn’t do anything else aside from spamming healing words in the ones that I could. 4 of us got downed but couldn’t get up

We had some special unique effect due to a NPC that gave us some resistance to the heat and shrouded us in a very resistante ice capsule when we got downed so we could atleast get out alive in case we failed the mission. By some miracle the ranger managed to get a crit and kill the guy but I couldn’t get rid of the feeling that I could have done more not only on this combat but all the others.

Ironicaly that combat was the first in the entire campaign that I didn’t fell either from my stupidity/inexperience or luck. The DM sometime after told me the guy was immune to charmed and a few other things so even if I found myself on position to do anything else most of my kit would be useless against him because a good chunk of my kit are debuff or control spells that rely on charmed.

I know it wasn’t the DM intention to either nullify my kit or make a combat where I couldn’t do much, after all, I am still inexperient and trying to improve.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. Does someone have a hint or advice on how to keep up and be useful for my team at this level of play?

(Sorry if somethings were hard to understand, english isn’t my first language)
