Hi everyone,
I’m considering a System Engineer position that focuses on ObjectStorage and NAS infrastructure. My long-term goal is to move into Data Engineering, but breaking in has been challenging due to my background:
- Experience:
- 10+ years as a System Administrator
- 1 year as a Data Analyst
- Current Education: Master’s in Data Science (in progress).
Job Overview
The position involves:
- Managing and automating S3 and NAS infrastructure (DellEMC ECS, NetApp).
- Using Python and Ansible for automation and integrating into a CI/CD pipeline.
- Contributing to audits, system evolution, and working in an agile environment.
My Questions to the Experts Here:
- Is this a good stepping stone towards Data Engineering?
- I’m hoping the experience with storage systems, automation tools, and CI/CD will be relevant.
- Long-term Career Path: Could this role help me pivot towards Data Engineering or even Data Science in the future?
- Company Fit: I like the employer and team vibe so far, but does this role align well with my career goals?
I’m particularly excited about working with Python and automation tools (like Ansible), but I’d love to hear your thoughts. Is storage engineering experience seen as valuable in the DE world?
