Go for machine learning instead of backend development /u/facugaze CSCQ protests reddit

I’ll go straight to the point: Is it possible to learn and get a job in Machine Learning without first going through backend web development? I’m 24 and in my second year of Computer Science. I’ve already got the math stuff covered (not everything, but linear algebra and calculus, which I really loved learning). I know about structured and object-oriented programming, relational databases, C#, and .NET. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love the idea of dedicating myself to backend web development. My question is more focused on the getting a job part, haha. Thanks in advance!
