Unpopular opinion – ‘No Stone Unturned’ quest is a must do /u/ElusiveCucumber000 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The recent post by u/Education_Run_9382 on restoring the Crown of Barenziah prompted me to stress just how great the ‘Prowlers Profit’ perk received upon completion really is. The benefit to your smithing, enchanting and coin purse cannot be overstated, and it’s something I do every play through as early as I can.

The quest is widely hated for taking forever to complete, but if you’re methodical about it and prepare in advance it realistically only takes about 10-20 hours. The hardest part of the quest is finding 25,000 to cough up for Proudspire Manor, but the vast majority of locations are accessible right from your escape from Helgen. Other locations unlocked by quests like the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary or Arch Mages quarters take a while, but these quests are integral to larger quest lines you would typically follow anyway.

So why go to all the trouble? Simple. Gems. So, many, gems. The Prowlers Profit perk means virtually every receptacle you search from then on will have at least one gem, with seemingly no disparity in gem quality. The higher your level, the better gems you’ll find too. The reason this is such a boon to your game is 3 fold.

Gems paired with gold ingots to make jewelry is by far the fastest way to level up smithing. Smithing XP is correlated to the value of the item being crafted. Jewelry is obviously more valuable than most weapons/armor and is not locked behind a perk tree. Iron ore bought dirt cheap from vendors and transmuted to gold with your now limitless supply of gems guarantees no more hassle gathering expensive and exotic materials needed to craft weapons and armor.

Enchanting this jewelry does the same thing for your enchant level as for smithing. Jewelry is also super light meaning you’re not lugging 50+ daggers or bows to the enchant table each time, and the value of the finished product brings me to number 3.

Stonks – speaks for itself

Ultimately 10-20 hours of grinding is nothing in the grand scheme of a play through and the time is more than made up for when you can hit 100 Smith and Enchant in far less time than the more standard methods of level grinding. The cherry on top is being able to fill every cup, bowl, and drawer in your house with gorgeous gems.

Sorry for the long ass post but to me the benefit is clear and I’ll die on my hill of diamonds defending this quest.
