I thought I’d be nice for everyone to share their story with monster hunter and how we all got into this franchise before the release of wilds.
For anyone who doesn’t exactly know what to type:
-how you found out about the game.
-why did you start playing.
-what weapon did you start with.
-your overall journey and how did you develop as a hunter, changes in what weapon you used.
-what has kept you playing.
-and lastly how it’s going so far.
A bit more than a year ago I had just finished elden ring and was looking for a game where I could make my own build and have the same feeling of these giant bosses; looked for a couple of weeks until I stumbled upon a post that mentioned monster hunter and decided to look it up. It seemed interesting and since there was a huge discount on the game and dlc I bought it. I started with the greatsword thinking it would be more of a “hack and slash” type of game, but it was like a slap in the face when it reminded me more of a fighting game which is a genra I really dislike since I’m complete garbage at it. After a couple of hunts I put the game down for several months, until I want to play something like elden ring again and decided to give it another shot. I switched to the longsword because it looked cool, and quickly made my way to high rank; I restart not feeling exactly satisfied with the results as well as switching to hammer. Things get better until I get bored and start all over again with the Gunlance, this time I make it to master rank while also learning the charge blade on the side, which has now become my main weapon. The thing that held me back is that I didn’t really understand this game, the game is called “Monster HUNTER” so I just thought that the point was to pick a weapon and go kill some monster I didn’t exactly think too much about my build or what items I’d need. Again and again I’ve watched so many videos that it honestly felt like I started doing homework. A month ago I met Velkhana, and it was like running into a wall at full sprint. I decided to restart one last time, and damn it paid off, I can feel and see I’ve gotten so much better, and having played all weapons (I didn’t mention most since nothing extraordinary happened with them) really helped me have a better understanding of the game. Today I defeated Velkhana in less than a month, where previously I couldn’t get past her with months of training. I’m currently farming her, and honestly, I’m glad I joined this community during this period to participate in the release of wilds, as the beta made me immediately fall in love with the fluidity of the weapons I felt lacking a bit in world. And I’m obviously thankful to everyone who answered my posts and to all the content creators who helped me understand the game better, because honestly I don’t think I would have enjoyed it so much to become my favorite franchise without you guys.
