DM’s – unique focus item? /u/SarcasticKenobi DnD: Roll for Initiative!

So been toying around with a concept for a warlock backstory for a run where our dm is letting us start at level 3 and will consider us having 1 non standard minor starting gear so long as we don’t go crazy with it. Essentially one item.

And I’ve been playing around with character creator in bg3 and using custom clothing options to make an avatar. And I found something that looks cool.

So Gortash had a metal gauntlet. It’s not an actual gauntlet (like a giant metal knight’s glove) but essentially a big piece of jewelry. Like fingerless gloves, but metal fingertips (not full fingers) and a gem on the back of the hand. (Super powerful gem…. But that’s not important for my needs)

And I was thinking: this could be a neat focus. Like the gem on the back of the hand is a focus. I’d be pact of tome so I wouldn’t be punching things or whatever.

The idea is my my character (who had a mysterious past unknown to even them, whose details the dm liked and would work into the narrative) is avenging their dead adoptive parent, and when going through their stuff finds the parent was once a warlock that freed themselves from the pact. And finds MOST of their old gear is destroyed by the fire, but 2 items survived. A tablet describing how to make the pact with [I’m thinking Hadar] and a decorative “gauntlet” that acts as a focus.

Digging through the guide it sounds like this would probably go against RAW and MAYBE RAI since I don’t see anything about attaching a focus gem to a “glove”

So I’m guessing officially this is not kosher?

But if not, would you allow it? Do you foresee pushback?

The guy is pretty laid back about most things but also takes other things seriously. And while I think this is a neat idea I also don’t want to be “that guy” that starts out being an annoying player.
