Advice with dodging /u/Mac_JCB Monster Hunter: World

So I’m pretty new to Monster Hunter and games with fromSoftware like movement/ combat systems. Got about 60 hours in the game so far and I’m enjoying it, I’ve been playing bow exclusively, But one thing I can’t seem to wrap my head around is dodging. Are characters unable to dodge when any sort of animation is playing? Because it seems like the only time my character wants to dodge is when he has his weapon put away.

It seems even if my bow has fired an arrow, Since the draw animation isn’t finished it won’t let me dodge? Despite me spamming spacebar I just have to sit there and watch the monster hit me. Is this perhaps just a problem with the bow or is this just part of the game I have to get used to? Because to me personally dodging should take precedent over every other animation my character is doing.
