Should Steam Introduce a Subscription for Exclusive Early Access to Upcoming Titles? What’s your opinion of this idea? /u/NekohimeShaman Steam on Reddit

Introducing a subscription for exclusive early access to upcoming titles on Steam could be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it COULD offer substantial benefits. It would provide developers with upfront funding, especially for indie titles or smth, and create a sense of community where players can help shape the game through feedback. Additionally, it could build hype and anticipation for games by allowing fans to engage early.

On the other hand, the concept could create issues around quality control, as early access games are often unfinished and buggy (obviously). And some players might expect too much from something unfinished and in early access or feel frustrated if the games don’t meet their expectations, leading to backlash and maybe even causing the “hype” to drop before it has the chance?
