Can help desk help me get into software engineering /u/ExtremelyRough CSCQ protests reddit

I am a senior CS student on my last semester and I haven’t had any internships or anything yet. I have been grinding projects. I currently have a lube tech job changing oil and now I have a possible help desk position at the same company. Only issue is the hours are terrible: 12pm-9pm thurs-Mon.

Cons: If I take this, it will interfere with my school schedule. It will also somewhat ruin my social life since my girlfriend is only off on the weekends and the 2 days I’d have off I’d have to dedicate it to school. On top of that I will have to give up my position as Vice president of my schools Red Cross club. I feel like this club looks good on my resume so idk about giving up the position.

Pros: This would be my first job outside of retail which I think would look good to recruiters. Also this is a stepping stone into better IT positions if I decide to go that route.

Also to note, the pay is exactly the same.

Is the job a possible catalyst for getting a SE job or is it not worth the sacrifice?
