coding an AI to process images? /u/paranoid-alkaloid Python Education

Hi. I use python for a variety of system/network/automation scripts but I’ve never used AI libs. I’m thinking that AI could help me for the following project, but I’m not sure where to start:

I have a map of tunnels drawn over the land registry. Land registry is black, tunnels are black. Black on black. Terrible to read.

I have the bare land registry map. I want to subtract the two. But the land registry used in the tunnels maps is always slightly off (this was made way before computers existed: pieces of paper were cut and pasted, whole areas are tilted/offset, some are slightly warped, some are perfectly fine), so a subtraction never works. Even making the correct land registry thicker doesn’t help.

So I’m thinking that perhaps AI could help me do this? Finding “local similarities” between 2 images, then doing an image subtraction of the similarities?

What do I need to look into to get started?
